Unraced Projects Of The 1928 Season

Projects 1920 - 1945

The roaring twenties an era of economic prosperity the years when the sky was the limit. People started dancing on Jazz music, the fashion become more exciting and modern. People started enjoying life in a modern way, as we have today. The era that evolved motorsport to a new standard, professional and serious. Car manufacturers started in both the States, Australia and Europe investing serious money in motorsport. Via this platform, they were able to show the world what their cars could do. Grand Prix driving would never be the same again after World War I. The sport had more flair, more passion and became an elite sport. Time to see which unraced cars brought 1928 us.

As the 1928s happened 97 years ago, the information about this era is hard to get. Going through newspapers, magazines and books from that era is the only way to uncover the unraced of the roaring 1920s.  Therefore, not all information is complete. Some years are lacking all the attempts made to appear on the grid. As well, the lack of proper covering bares the question sometimes if some is unraced or not.

Wanderer
There is not much known of the Wanderer that was on the entry list for the Australian Grand Prix held the 26th of March at Philip Island. While Wanderer was a former manufacturer of bicycles, vans and cars, it is questionable which car they used. Most of the cars the company produced were passenger cars such as the W8 and the W10. G.A. Wagner was supposed to drive the car. While they arrived, for unknown reasons they did not start in the race. Perhaps it was because the race was postponed for a week due to heavy rainfall. The car was to race in the 1100-1500cc class.

Corre La Licorne
The Corre La Licorne appears three times on the entry list in 1928. With Michel Doré as their driver, he would later in the season race for BCN. However, the car never raced.
The first time is during the I Grand Prix d’Antibes Juan les Pins geld at Cap d’Antibes the 9th of April. Where the car did not arrive. The second time was during the XXII Grand Prix de l’A.C.F. at St. Gaudens held the 1st of July. There the car did not arrive. The last entry was during the IV Grand Prix de la Marne at Reims the 5th of July 1928. Doré did not start the race due to a crash that damaged the car too much. Corre la Licrone or better known as Licrone was establish in 1901 in France. The company produced several cars as well intended for racing. However, it is not known which car they were intended to race with.

Donnet
Donnet was a French company that manufactured a lot of stuff. Probably they are best known for their Patrol Flying boats for the French Navy. The company was establish in 1914 by Jérôme Donnet and François Denhaut. While there is plenty of information about the company there is little to none about their car that was to race two Grand Prix’s in 1928. Etienne Lepicard was to race during the I Grand Prix d’Antibes Juan les Pins geld at Cap d’Antibes the 9th of April. However, the car did not arrive. Neither did the car arrive for the XXII Grand Prix de l’A.C.F. held the 1st of July that year which Etienne Lepicard would drive as well.

Taldi/Tracta
There is some dispute how the car was named the Taldi or the Tracta. There is also little known about this car that appeared on the starting list for the Grand Prix of Rome held the 10th of June. Michele Baccoli was to drive the car.

Alphi
While it is known that Alphi build their own Grand Prix car and was to race in 1929 during the French Grand Prix. It seems that they were also ready to race in 1928. The year the company was established. The Alphi name appears on the starting list for the XXII Grand Prix de l’A.C.F. at St. Gaudens. Édouard Brisson was to drive the car. There is further information known.

Morano-Marguerite
The Société A. Marguerite was a French car manufacturer estiablish in 1922. The company is mostly known for building small and sporty vehicles. Several cars types were produced. There were also a couple of sportscars. However, it is unknown what car they were to use for the VIII Grand Prix de Boulogne the 9th of September. Morris was to drive the car.
