The silly season for 2025 has started even before the 2024 season has even started. The transfer from Lewis Hamilton to the Scuderia is one that many wished for, though wouldn’t imagined it would go this quickly. It means that some drivers are looking now for new opportunities, while others like Sainz are forces to. However, i think more shifts will be made for 2025 where I hope some of the drivers will be ditched finally as they have no reason at all to be on the grid isn’t it Haas?
I normally wouldn’t write an article about the silly season of a current or new season, for the simple reason I don’t really care the modern times. However, this is a special one that no one saw coming. Hamilton’s move to Ferrari is interesting especially for his statements he made during the last years. Ferrari and especially the tifosi. They keep it plain and simple with just Italian tragedy you see in the opera. Anyway, with this move from Lewis, which I actually like as a tifoso some interesting thoughts popped up in my mind. I will share them with you.
Let’s start with Carlos Sainz like his father I believe he is one of the no-nonsense drivers you need to have on the grid. He already knows he has to leave Ferrari at the end of the season, while negotiations were already on it’s way for a new contract. While I first believed he would go to Steak whatever Sauber team to join them in 2025 and be their number one driver when Audi enters. I believe now that he will replaced Sergio Perez at Red Bull. Max and Carlos were already teammates at Toro Rosso and seemed to friendly with each other. To be fair, I have never been a fan from Perez and I don’t think he belongs at Red Bull at all.
It is Sergio Perez I believe who will make a move to Haas in 2025, if that team still exists by then. While not a fan I believe, he can bring the team to a higher level with his experience. Both Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hülkenberg I believe will be off the grid in 2025. Maybe they will keep Kevin or Nico. Though it would be better to have a youngster in one of their cars. Also more involvement form Ferrari is what they need. Speaking about the Hulk he could be interesting for Aston Martin as replacement for, here he comes, Fernando Alonso!
I convinced myself, a while ago, that Fernando would continue racing until he reaches the age of 45. He still has it to be quick and challenge anyone as we saw in 2023. No silly season without a spicy and wild idea! I believe that Fernando will leave Aston Martin to take the place of Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. Why do I think that? It is just a feeling and I believe he could still win races with them. Fernando’s place, while I think it could be the Hulk, will be filled by Albon who comes from Williams one of those teams who should leave the grid as soon as they can. Albon deserves it to be in a team that is quick.
Obviously, we also have the Ca$h App Racing Alpha Tauri Toro Rosso or better said the Faenza team. They kept god knows why Ricciardo as one of their drivers. Truly, I have no clue why they want him. Sure, it is still a Red Bull team though Ricciardo is past due his days in the Formula One like Stroll and Sergeant are. What about Bottas he could be a serious candidate to join a team like Mercedes. However, I believe that Bottas prefers to stay with Sauber until he retires in 2067. He enjoys his free time way too much, I mean who else would make a nudity calendar? For the static Alpine nothing will change.
I believe that Williams, if they want to be serious, should become what Minardi once was. The team that give the young guns their first taste with Formula One. A team where you can fail one race and conquer the other race. Similar goes for Haas. However, I don’t think they will be long on the grid. Eventually Andretti will simply buy them out. As written yesterday it is stupid that their entry is denied! Anyway, so far my ideas about the Silly Season for 2025.
