Lets continue with the list of smaller teams if the 12 points system would have been adapted in the era they were active. Somehow, it keeps triggering my mind, what if, only if. The reason they are discussing a top 12 point finish has to do with the liability of today’s cars. It seems to be unfair that teams don’t score points. Why this was never opted when Caterham, Manor and HRT were on the grid? They rarely finished twelfth or better in the years they were active on the grid. Perhaps I don’t understand it, though as explained in part 1 i believe it is the zeitgeist we are living in where you can’t form your own opinions. Anyway, let’s continue!
HRT I was to compare the three new comers as we knew them in 2010 with the proposed new point system. However, USF1 never came further than some toaster. While HRT would fail to score even points, like Williams a few years ago, with this new system. Their best result was the 13th place scored by Liuzzi during the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix.
Virgin Racing / Marussia F1 Team / Manor Racing I like to start with the Manor Racing, which had a very promising design ready for the 2017. The MRT06 looked very up to date compared to the cars that eventually appeared on the track that season. Like the Toyota and the Honda, these could have kept the teams on the grid. Brawn eventually used the unraced Honda design. It was in 2010 one of the four new teams that were lured into the F1 with a budget cap that never happened. Starting as Virgin Racing it was only a matter of time before they became Marussia. Until mid-season 2014 when the team collapsed. In 2015 under the banner of Manor they kept racing as Marussia only to secure the prize money from 2014.
I do believe that the team could have survived with the extra money they would gain as they would be more focused on the development of the car.

Team Lotus / Caterham F1 The joke of the grid in 2010 claiming the name Team Lotus. While another team the former Renault team was rebranded as Team Lotus as well. I can’t help it I never took those two years of the team seriously. When it became Caterham F1, it had more right to be in the paddock. One of the new teams that was lured in the F1 with the promised budget cap. The team eventually collapsed at the end of 2014. They returned one last time during the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. While Rubens Barrichello was to make his comeback with the team in Brazil. So how did the team do with the new system compared with the old system?
