While i sporadically watch a Formula One race I don’t understand why Pérez is still there. His season started really good finishing twice as second. However, like last year his form is gone at the end of the season. What is the reason that Pérez is still in the second Red Bull Racing? It can’t be only because is a reasonable driver. In that case, you would be better off with Hülkenberg next to Max. Would have loved to see that happen back when Ricciardo left the team for McLaren. Though there is something else, that bothers me with Pérez, something that dates back to 1995. Almost three decades ago and it’s time to straighten the records and praise Pedro Diniz! Yes, Pérez is involved in this one because the results are the proof.
Pedro Diniz appeared in 1995 at Forti Corse, yes with a lot of money, as his father owned the Pao de Acucar supermarket chain. It doesn’t matter Pérez brings in also an amount of money at Red Bull Racing. Back then, the media used to call Diniz the ultimate pay-driver who was only there because of the millions his he got from his father. However, when you look at his results that year he did actually an amazing job.
Remember back in 1995 there were fourteen (Larrousse was on the official entry list as a Junior team) and later twelve when Simtek went into bankruptcy. Also the top six only scored points during a Grand Prix and there was no point for the fastest lap. With a 10th place at Brazil, Monaco and a 9th place in Italy and eventually a 7th place in Australia he would have scored ten points with today’s point system. This means he would have out paces Bottas, Zhou and Seargant.
Where does Checo come in? Well, in the last five races Checo only scored eight points! In the same car Max Verstappen managed to secure his fourth title with. Pedro Diniz drove around in the Forti FG01 that had more similarities with a Formula 3 car then a Formula 1 car, I’m not kidding. Let’s not forget the point system back in the days and Pedro’s results are really impressive. Sure you may start the discussion that those were other times or that you can’t compare it at all.
Therefore, I would like to call on Marko and Horner to say goodbye to Checo and bring in Pedro Diniz as their second driver for 2025!
