All I want for Christmas is working servers for USF1, the all American Formula One team that was to debut in the Formula One in 2010. However, since that eerie message on twitter the 18th of February 2010 it has been quiet about the team. While they were working hard to bring their infrastructure in order, to sign contracts with suppliers, everything went down the drain due to a faulty sever 2003 setting that went corrupt, I bet it was that. Speaking from my own experience I never like that server solution from Microsoft!
Almost 14 years ago was the day that the USF1 world stood still and haven’t moved an inch since! The team was on it’s way to appear on the grid. Argentinian driver José María López had a contract with the team to drive for them in 2010. James Rossiter was the other driver that signed a contract with the team for 2010. The contract with Cosworth was signed as well.
The design for the USF1 Type 1 was ongoing, while the first crash test was happening overlooked by the management and head engineers. It seems that the server issue had a huge impact on the design schedule. Where companies usually make backups external or in the cloud of their files. It seems this went corrupted as well due to the server.
It is just sad to see that they had to ask the FIA if they could skip the first four races of the season to get everything in order. Sadly, we are 14 years further; the Formula One went on without USF1 on the grid. The other three new teams HRT, Catherham and Marussia appeared on the grid. Only to vanish within a few years. It would be great to have USF1 still on the grid.
If necessary, I still have access to my MSDN account at Microsoft. From the days in 2006 when I started to follow a four year long network applicator study with all stuff next to it. Yes, I can save USF1 if they want with offering them a decent Microsoft Server 2022 license!
Because all I want for Christmas is working servers for USF1!
